ENGLISH"Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort." - Franklin D. Roosevelt In the month of August, we undertook the study of a literary piece with a message centered around maintaining a positive outlook on life. We introduced 'Pollyanna - The Game' through an activity called the 'Glad Game.' During this game, students were presented with various situations, and their task was to identify something to be glad about within each scenario. Furthermore, students delved deeper into the text by framing questions, engaging in discussions regarding comprehension and prediction, and diligently noting down new vocabulary words. They actively sought to establish connections with the story and relate it to their own experiences. Following this exploration, they documented their learning in written form within their notebooks. In our grammar lessons, students revisited the concept of articles and reinforced their understanding through textbook exercises. In parallel with recent updates on Chandrayan II, our students also delved into the world of idioms and proverbs, expanding their linguistic repertoire and cultural awareness. In the realm of writing, students expanded their knowledge of story writing. They began by watching a video and a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation on story elements. Subsequently, they attempted to complete a story based on a provided story starter. Additionally, they practiced crafting stories using given outlines, further enhancing their creativity and storytelling skills. Biology"What you plant today, you harvest tomorrow." August commenced with a comprehensive exploration of plants. Students gained a deep understanding of the significance of leaves, stems, flowers, and roots in the plant kingdom. To reinforce these concepts, students embarked on a nature walk around the school grounds, allowing them to observe and appreciate the lessons gleaned from their textbooks. In the classroom, the teacher employed a multifaceted approach to facilitate learning. This included the use of PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, and actual specimens of flowers and leaves for hands-on learning experiences. This holistic approach ensured that students had a well-rounded education in the fascinating world of plants. PhysicsThe chapter "Electricity and Circuits" was introduced with an engaging activity centered around static electricity. To further enhance understanding and promote awareness of conserving electricity, a class discussion was conducted, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Students were educated about the structure and components of a Dry Cell and Electric Bulb through the utilization of relevant video links and diagrams, emphasizing the integration of art into the learning process. You can access the related video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txiCd7xPz_k The working principle of an Electric Torch, which relies on one or more dry cells, was elucidated by the educator. This explanation was supported by a science video link and diagrams, accessible here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-etQ24Mlg As part of a hands-on learning experience, students brought small torches to examine how batteries are placed inside an electric torch. The concept of open and closed circuits, as well as the functioning of electric switches, was comprehensively explained with the aid of numerous circuit diagrams and a hands-on activity. Students had the opportunity to observe their educator construct a simple circuit using an electric cell, paper clips, drawing pins, a torch bulb, plastic-coated wires, cello tape, and cardboard. They also familiarized themselves with the symbols used to represent various components of the circuit. To reinforce their understanding, students created several concept maps in their notebooks summarizing the key concepts from the chapter. Additionally, they actively engaged in chapter exercises and question-answer sessions to assess their comprehension. A class revision was conducted to prepare the students thoroughly for the upcoming Half-Yearly Examinations. Chemistry"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin The topic of 'Properties of Materials' began with an engaging hands-on activity. Students were tasked with collecting various objects made from different materials such as wood, plastic, fabric, copper wire, iron rod, paper, rubber, glass, and sponge. During this activity, they observed and explored material properties, including hardness, compressibility, and malleability. Another enjoyable experiment involved testing whether objects would sink or float in the classroom setting. Students gathered objects like an eraser, metal ruler, plastic ruler, sharpener, pin, leaf, empty bottle, pencil, paper clip, and more. They carefully placed each item one by one into a bowl of water, recording whether they sank or floated in their notebooks. Students actively participated in discussions to understand the reasons behind why some objects sank while others floated. This hands-on exploration enhanced their grasp of material properties. To evaluate the students' understanding, the class engaged in discussions related to chapter exercises and question-answer sessions. Additionally, the concepts from the chapter were reinforced through an Oral Quizizz and MS Forms Assessment, demonstrating integration with information technology. In preparation for the upcoming Half-Yearly Examinations, revision assignments were conducted in the class to ensure that the students were thoroughly prepared. Subsequently, a class test was conducted to assess the students' understanding of these topics. The next chapter, "Playing With Numbers," was introduced with an oral discussion centered around listing factors and multiples. To elucidate the concepts of prime and composite numbers, a hands-on activity was employed. Students engaged in finding prime and composite numbers within the range of 1-100 using the Sieve of Eratosthenes method. During this period, students also gained insights into various number-related concepts, including twin prime numbers, same-digit prime numbers when reversed, and co-prime numbers. They actively participated in exercises based on the practical activity they had undertaken. Students were instructed in the methods for determining factors, multiples, common factors, and common multiples. Additionally, they were encouraged to explore the meanings of words such as largest, maximum, minimum, and smallest in the context of finding the least common multiple (LCM) or highest common factor (HCF). Book exercises were thoroughly explained and completed in the classroom, ensuring students had a strong grasp of the material. The relationship between LCM and HCF was also taught, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of these fundamental concepts. To reinforce their learning, students worked on weekend worksheets that covered ongoing concepts, and they engaged in mental math practice using Quizizz.
