MathWhole Numbers Patterns in Whole Numbers: Bindi Activity of Commutative Property was done in the class. The students learnt the properties of Whole numbers through a PPT, class discussion & explanation. Commutative Property Associative Property Distributive Property Identity Property The students were asked to make a flower pot of "WHOLE NUMBERS" using colours. Exercise questions were taught in the class. Playing With Number The students were asked to explore the prime and composite numbers 1-100. The educator taught them what is prime and prime factorisation of the given number. Prime Numbers: The Sieve of Eratosthenes: The students were asked to do the Sieve of Eratosthenes with the reference of the YouTube link and the same activity was explained in the class. They got an idea about Prime and composite Numbers, Twin prime numbers, same digit prime numbers but reversed and co-prime numbers. Exercise questions based on the learnt activity were taught in the class. They were asked to explore the words meaning with largest, maximum, minimum, smallest according to its LCM or HCF. The relationship between LCM & HCF was taught in the class. Data Handling The definition of data, primary data and secondary data was explained as an introduction to the chapter. Reading from the Pictograph, drawing of Pictograph and Bar graph were explained with the help NCERT Exercise Questions. Revision of Half Yearly Syllabus was done with worksheets. ScienceThe August month started with an interesting activity on Waste Management. The students went to the Compost Pit in the school campus to understand the process of decomposing organic waste. [SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities] Many students tried the Recycling Activity of old newspapers at home. This activity helped them to understand how recycling paper benefits our environment by saving trees. The chapter Electricity and Circuits was introduced with an interesting activity on static electricity. A class discussion was held on becoming more sensitive and aware of Conserving Electricity. [SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production] The students learnt about the structure and parts of Dry Cell and Electric Bulb with the help of related video links and diagrams. The concept of open and closed circuit and electric switch was explained in detail with the help of several circuit diagrams and Hands on Activity. The students observed their educator construct a simple circuit by connecting an electric cell with paper clips, drawing pins, torch bulb, plastic-coated wires, cello tape and cardboard. They also learnt and practiced the symbols used to represent the components of the circuit. The students made several concept maps in their notebooks to revise the concepts of the chapter. Chapter Exercises and Question-Answers were discussed to assess the understanding of the students. Recapitulation of chapter concepts was done through Quizizz and Google Forms Assessment [IT Integration]. The class test was also conducted to prepare the students for the Half Yearly Examinations. SSTMan, the molecule of society is the subject of Social Science. The chapter Rotation and Revolution began with an activity where the students demonstrated the rotation and revolution of the Earth, one enacting the Earth and the other the Sun. The students were surprised to know that the Earth is moving at a speed of about 1,674 kilometers an hour. The students learned about the circle of illumination with an activity using a globe and a torch light. A detailed explanation of the effects of the revolution was discussed in a video. They learned interesting facts like why a leap year has 366 days and why is Christmas celebrated in Australia during the summer season? The chapter concluded with a discussion on different solstices and the students drawing different solstices [Art Integration]. The students continued their journey to the past and were excited to learn about the earliest cities. They learned about the significant features of Harappan cities such as their sophisticated town planning and water supply. The students were explained the various Harappan sites with a PowerPoint presentation. They were delighted to know that their very own state has a Harappan site “Rakhigarhi”. The lives, religious beliefs, crafts, trade, and tribes of the Harappan cities were discussed. The town planning of the Harappan civilization was compared to the town planning of Gurugram [SDG 11: Sustainable cities and Communities]. The chapter Government began with a discussion on the meaning of the term Government. The students learned the different levels of government with a triangular pyramid. A discussion on whether Democracy is the best form of government was conducted in class. The function of a government was explained to the students. The students also were able to differentiate between the terms Prejudice, Discrimination, Stereotype, and Inequality. The students enthusiastically shared many examples of Stereotypes. Oral assessment of chapters and revision for Half yearly was also conducted. ICTThe students learnt about cell references, inserting functions and formulas in Excel. They realised how Excel can make a task (huge calculations) easy. Revision of Half Yearly Syllabus was done in the Notebook and Quiz links were shared for revising the topics. Doubt clearing practical session were conducted and the students were explained - Merge, Wrap, FlashFill and calculations. Roosevelt A literature piece with the message of staying positive in life was taken up in the month of August. ‘Pollyanna – The Game’ was introduced through a glad game in which the students were given a situation and they had to identify something to be glad about. Further, the students delved deeper into the text by framing questions, discussing the aspects of comprehension, prediction and noting down the new vocabulary. They made connection with the story and tried to relate the same. Then they consolidated their learning in the written form in their notebooks. In grammar, the students recapitulated the concept of articles and practiced the text book exercises. In sync with SDG 14- Life below Water and their supplementary reader, Tales from Shakespeare, the students practiced the concept of idioms and proverbs. In writing, the students built upon their knowledge of story writing. They started off with watching a video and a PPT about the story elements and attempted to complete a story on the basis of the story starter provided to them. GermanThe session recommenced through a revision of the numbers, greetings, verb conjugation, nominative and accusative case. This was followed by the students interviewing their educator and peers to revise w-questions learnt earlier. They also revised family members with definite articles in nominative case. The students attempted to make small sentences on family members with articles and write an email in their notebooks. They were able to introduce themselves as per the format of A1 Exam, Goethe Institute. Children actively participated in the oral test conducted in the class. PEWarm Up exercises Badminton: Scissor kicks, Gripping (forehand & backhand) Basketball: Shooting, Rebound, Offensive and Defensive skills. The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a Krishna song embibing the spirit of love and devotion. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DramaMirroring Activities where students follow the teacher in various actions & postures were conducted. Body Sculpting - An activity in which students are divided into teams of two where one becomes the sculptor while the other becomes a model and they make things (living/non living) and then their roles are switched. ArtCreative Composition- 75 years of Indian Independence for ABHIVYAKTI 1.0 Exhibition on 15th August- Students were asked to make a composition on 75 years of independence/ their expression on the definition of India. This was done as a group work (a group of 4 students) on half imperial size paper using acrylic/ poster colours. Students learnt the use of space, line, lay outing, balance and colour. Selected works were displayed in the exhibition, at the school's reception on 15th August.
