MATHChapter Algebra: The chapter Algebra was introduced with real life situations where the students were encouraged to see negative numbers, reflect on what they knew about Equations and the solutions of the given equations. The value of the variable in an equation which satisfies the equation is called a solution to the equation, a trial-and-error method Pick out the solution from the values given in the bracket next to each equation and show that the other values do not satisfy the equation were explained with the help of NCERT Text book exercise questions. Chapter Ratios and Proportions: The students were explained that in daily life, many a times comparison was made between two quantities of the same type, like Composition of Air [Subject Integrated – Science], [SDG 6: Water and Sanitation] using ratios. The concept of Ratios and Proportions were given as a concept map and the exercise questions of NCERT Text book were given importance. Extra questions based on Ratios and Proportions were given as a practice questions and a MS form test were conducted during Online class on the topic of Algebra. Chapter Perimeter and Areas: The educator initiated the chapter by asking the students to compare and measure the plane figures drawn on the class notebook of MS Teams while thinking of their regions and their boundaries. The learners were told about how perimeter was widely used in daily life with examples of a farmer who wants to fence his field, an engineer who plans to build a compound wall on all sides of a house, a sports person who prepares a track to conduct sports, etc. Perimeter of the regular shapes- formula derivation was taught in the class using the various cutouts of the polygons. The students were asked to make a presentation on Irregular shapes using the graph sheet and the same was displayed on their class display board. SCIENCEThe students had Fun with Magnets in their Science classes in December. They understood the different properties of a magnet with the help of several experiments and learnt how to make temporary magnets. They applied the knowledge to find out how information is stored in magnetic strips of ATM and credit card. The learners further explored the relationship between the animals and their respective habitats through role-play and models. They talked about how human activities like poaching and increasing agricultural lands can harm the environment and habitats. [SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production]. In January, the students continued to learn about the parts responsible for movements in animals. They recapitulated the parts of the skeleton system and types of joints with the help of Human Skeletal Model in Biology Lab. Lot of diagrams and concept maps were used by the teacher to explain the different concepts in the chapter. The chapter- Air Around Us was done with lot of activities. The students performed many experiments to show the different properties of the air using simple things available at home. They watched a Youtube video to learn more about the causes and effects of air pollution and the steps to be taken to reduce it. The learners were excited to categorize the different activities into primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. They researched the Milk Man of India and his contribution to the Indian economy. They learned about how farmers fall into a debt trap that culminates in rural indebtedness. A caste study on landless farmers was discussed in class. ICTPython is easy to learn. Python has a simple syntax that makes it suitable for learning programming as a first language. During the process of learning Python, the students learnt basic coding in Python using Input Command and Variables. They realised that any task they perform in their daily routine consists of three steps – Input, Processing, and Output. This chapter facilitated them to perform all these operations with the help of Python programs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_Eds34UVCs ENGLISH“Believe you can and you’re half way there.” - Roosevelt A literature piece with the message of ‘helping others’ was taken up in the month of December. ‘Huck saves the life of Widow Douglas’ was introduced through a discussion in which the students were asked to write about how they have helped others. Further, the students delved deeper into the text by framing questions, discussing the aspects of comprehension, prediction and noting down the new vocabulary. They made connection with the story and tried to relate the same. Then they consolidated their learning in written form in their notebooks. The students were introduced to written works by Mark Twain and watched the video (The adventures of Tom Sawyer) as well. “Your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude.” - Michelle Obama The students enjoyed reading ‘King Lear', 'Hamlet' and 'Taming of the Shrew'’ from their Supplementary reader ‘Tales from Shakespeare’. The young readers prepared themselves in groups for a presentation from the play and honed their skills of enactment. They watched a video of the story, took notes and shared their views in the class. They were also given the link to understand the concept of Shakespearean comedy well. In grammar, the learners continued to develop their concept of Prepositions and Conjunctions with interactive sessions learning how these two are used in different sentences. The learners found it more interesting and resultantly grabbed the concept well. Keeping in mind Bloom’s taxonomy, they were able to APPLY the use of Prepositions and Conjunctions and IDENTIFY them in their day to day conversation. The coordinating and subordinating conjunctions were discussed with the help of 'Buddy teaching' and a handout followed by the discussion of text book exercises. In writing, the students built on their knowledge of newspaper report and article writing. They started off with a handout about the elements of newspaper report and article writing and attempted to write a few reports and articles on the basis of the samples provided to them. They attempted to draft reports and articles on the given topics individually. The students were given an enrichment exercise and several live worksheets for extra practice. The month of January began with a new dance style -Bhangra- on 'Vibe' song imbibing the spirit of happiness. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements (tapping and shuffling) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of movements like plie and shoulder. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DRAMAJanuary is a symbol of a fresh start and optimism. With what this month has in store for us, we need to understand how we might construct and create our own worlds using various concepts of the traits, physical characteristics, and distinctive specialties that collectively make up who we are as individuals. Students were instructed to identify the traits that set them apart from one another in order to use their creative imaginations and knowledge of the various personalities they see on a daily basis to develop a character from scratch. As a result, they could recognise several narratives of various personalities and pick one to tell as their own. The idea of building a story with simple words comes from understanding and observing the surroundings and the self, this was analyzed through story-building improv exercises.
