“Each day is a new beginning, the chance to do with it what should be done and not to be seen as simply another day to put in time” Catherine Pulsifer Jubilant July has seen an enthusiastic start after a refreshing summer break for everyone. We reflected on our students' learning by recollecting the exclusive experiences garnered during the fun-filled summer break. The month started with new learnings and students continued to enhance their knowledge by way of class discussions, videos, presentations and various class activities. The complete cycle of 1st Unit Test was conducted, doubt clearing sessions, revision, discussion of question papers, distribution of answer scripts….all completed with clockwork precision. The Universal Theme of the month ‘I am Honest’ was reiterated and inculcated in the Life Skill lessons and by way of stories and discussions. MATHEMATICS Students started their learning journey after the summer break by displaying their project work on Shapes, in sync with the SDG 9 – Industry, Innovations and Infrastructure. Their creativity knew no bounds which was evident in some of the models that were shared. Students' understanding of numbers began with a prior knowledge of forming numbers in the Indian and International system of numeration with the help of the Place Value chart. The topic ‘Knowing Our Numbers’ and ‘Whole Numbers’ was conducted as a Student Led session where some students adorned the hat of a teacher and taught the concept to their peers. The concepts Indian and International place value system, rounding off numbers to 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10000s, estimation by rounding, roman numerals, properties of whole numbers were some topics that were taken up by students. In addition to taking up the role of a teacher, few other students were also given the responsibility of writing the report for the whole session. Taking photographs with a keen eye of capturing the activities . Students also revised for their upcoming unit test using different tools – worksheets, MS Forms, quizziz. An extra doubt clearing session was also conducted for students to clarify their doubts before the examination. As a regular activity in class, students enjoyed doing the SEP Edu activity, where they were able to complete the activities, especially an interesting activity on Coordinates. SCIENCE Physics: Engaging young students with exciting material and experiences promotes lifelong learning. The children started the Concept of Electricity through hands-on activity to know what Static Electricity is all about. They performed the balloon-paper and paper-ruler activity by rubbing the balloon with fabric and ruler with their hairs to attract bits of paper. This activity did not only help them understand static electricity clearly but they also acquired the knowledge of types of charges present in any matter. They came up with their real life experiences of static charges through group discussions in the classroom. Further to understand the concept of current electricity, they were connected to virtual labs called simulations. These simulations clarified their misconceptions of electric current and enabled them to understand the term circuit. It was a joyful experience for them to learn more about electricity. https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/circuit-construction-kit-dc Chemistry: In our attempt to make children creative and innovative, learners brainstorm through the Think, pair, and share model (in breakout rooms) where they collaboratively work to come up with solutions of how waste produced at home can be segregated and recycled by everyone. They also created small ‘blue’ and green' dustbins to segregate their room waste. They further researched about ‘sanitary landfills’ and were surprised to learn that these modern landfills produce methane gas that is used to produce electricity. They made presentations depicting the construction and working of sanitary landfills. https://www.dumpsters.com/blog/how-do-modern-landfills-work Biology: “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” The concept ‘Components of Food’ was introduced in the class by a recall activity on different types of nutrients present on the label of their favorite snack. To facilitate a student centered approach, ‘peer teaching’ was introduced in class where the children taught their peers about the functions of carbohydrates, proteins and fats using the ‘show and tell’ method. They presented the real sources of CPF (Carbohydrates, fats and proteins) and explained the functions of the same to their peers. In addition to this, a starch test was performed using raw potato and betadine solution (contains iodine). The students observed the change in color of solution from brown to blue-black. They also checked the presence of fats in peanuts, chips by using butter paper. Further, to prepare them for the online assessment a revision assessment on Sources of food were conducted on MS forms Quiz. https://labinapp.com/resources/class-6-science/activity-to-test-the-presence-of-starch-in-food/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJgb_f15FKA&t=5s https://www.tactivity.in/Guide/Food+Test+++Protein/475 https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspxid=YVlUmu4VSEinRHZzb0eGY7USCjb5z1IsvRgjR2_gONUNERWVEkzQkdNS1JPU0NRNjhBR0RRQkFRMS4u SOCIAL SCIENCE History: Civilisation and Cities A video was shown to the students to introduce the topic “Indus valley civilization.” Students comprehend about planned cities of the Indus valley and understood the level of city planning in ancient times like The Great Bath, The Lower Town, Drainage System etc. To make students aware about the drainage system of the Indus valley cities, they compared the same with Gurgaon. Students shared their views about the reason for the decline of Indus valley. Map Activity- Students marked famous sites of The Indus Valley civilization on the map India to understand the extent of this civilisation. Hands on activity: Stamp making activity: Students enjoyed their hands on stamp making activity. They shared different beautiful DIY stamps and understood the importance of seals for trading purposes during ancient times. A revision assessment on civilisation was conducted on MS forms Quiz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZxm7dMcOCc https://tinkerlab.com/art-for-kids-diy-stamps/ https://forms.office.com/Pages/ShareFormPage.aspxid=YVlUmu4VSEinRHZzb0eGZJJ749KcEhAq0VnRSFTU_dUOUdLQVZUSTRQSjA0NUpLT1RYMzRTR0kzSC4u&sharetoken=4W0bBsI9XGmgrmsbV5FK Civics: Government The topic was introduced with some basic questions like rules and regulations, administration etc. They gained knowledge about
