MathChapter: INTEGER The chapter 'Integer' was introduced through sharing of real life situations where the students were recalled seeing negative numbers, what they knew about profit or loss, fall and rise in temperature, depth of the sea and altitude of the mountains, etc. [Subject Integrated with Geography] Winter climate of various states of India and climate change was discussed in the class. [SDG 13: Climate Change] The students were very eager to explore the experiential learnings with their partners. They were taught the concept of the lesson with the help of NCERT exercises. They solved the NCERT questions on the class board. The given integer opposites, absolute value and its sign, comparison of integers, ascending and descending order of integers and addition and subtraction of integers were explained with the help of NCERT exercise questions. Chapter FRACTION: The chapter was introduced through a concept map – types of fraction and fractions, conversion of fractions, compare the fractions, like and unlike fractions and addition and subtraction of fractions. Situation Activity- The birthday party The students were asked to make a pizza and share among their friends – reiterated with the fact that food is not to be wasted – SDG 12 (Wastage of food) was explained in the class. Science Chapter- Fibre to Fabric Term II started with the introductory activity of identifying the fabric that students were wearing. The students learned to classify different fibres into natural and synthetic fibres depending upon their origin. [Geography Integration] The learners took part in a Weaving Activity with Paper Strips to show how the two yarns are woven to form fabric. [Art Integration] Chapter- Changes Around Us The students identified the different types of reversible and irreversible reactions, chemical and physical reactions with the help of several activities and experiments in the chemistry lab. The educator explained the different ways in which the changes occur. Chapter - Water The learners identified the direct and indirect ways by which people consume water on a daily basis. They were shown pictures of natural disasters and were asked to identify them. They compared situations of flood and drought in two different areas with respect to their effect on life in the area, availability of food, occurrence of diseases and harm to property. [VUCA] 'Our country is facing an acute water crisis.' The students were sensitized to the issue and made aware of the different approaches for water conservation. [SDG 6: Clean water and Sanitation] Chapter - Light, Reflections and Shadows The students recalled the luminous and non- luminous objects. The teacher asked the students to collect various materials in class and check if anything could be seen through them. This activity helped students to understand the concept of transparent, translucent and opaque objects. They learned the concept of rectilinear propagation of light through an interesting activity. They looked at a candle through a staight pipe and a bent pipe to learn that light travels in a straight line. The educator explained the formation of shadows based on the previous concept by using a torch, ball and white A4 sheet. SST"Man, the molecule of society is the subject of Social Science" The young historians of Grade VI continued their journey to the past. Religion is the search for the ultimate meaning. The students gained insights into the principles and practices of the Vedic religion. They understood the various problems of the Vedic religion, which led to the emergence of religions like Jainism and Buddhism. The students were elated to learn about the great spiritual reformers Vardhamana Mahavira and Gautama Buddha. They engaged themselves in many activities like a presentation on teachings of Jainism, poster making on Buddhism and narration of interesting stories about the lives of Buddha and Mahavira[INTEGRATION WITH ART]. "To be good and to do good is all we have to do" The students were excited to learn about the working of local self-government. They gained insights into the importance of the involvement of people in the functioning of a country. They were able to understand the literal meaning of Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayats. A model Gram Panchayat was organized in class where the students enacted the role of the Sarpanch and the Panchs and discussed various issues and came out with unique solutions to those problems.[SDG 16 PEACE,JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS] "In our changing world, nothing changes more than Geography" The students were elated to learn about the various landforms of the Earth. They excitedly shared their experiences of visiting different landforms. Through videos, they learned about the process of the formation of different mountains in detail. They learnt to create and group objects. They also completed activities based on frame-by-frame technique followed by Motion Tween method. They created an animated poster using Animate CC Software. English After the completion of half yearly examination, the students began their lesson 'Verbs' with a game 'Simon Says' and understood the concept of verbs very well. In continuation, discussion of text book exercises including forms of verbs, synonyms, antonyms, formation of verbs, subject verb agreement and phrasal verbs was done along with a NIE activity as a reflection. A literature piece with the concept of comedy was taken up. ‘Uncle Podger hangs a picture’ by Jerome K Jerome was introduced with a session on author's talk. Further, the students delved deeper into the text by framing questions, discussing the aspects of comprehension, prediction and noting down the new vocabulary. They made connection with the story and tried to relate the same. Then they consolidated their learning in the written form in their notebooks. The students were motivated to read the poem ‘Someone’ over the weekend and share their views about the comprehension of the poem. Post this, question answers, new vocabulary, critical analysis and poetic devices of the poem were discussed in the class. In writing, the students added to their knowledge of letter writing. They revised with the help of a handout, the elements of letter writing and attempted to write a letter to the Principal on the basis of the sample letters provided. German The session recommenced through a revision of the numbers, greetings, verb conjugation and nominative. This was followed by the students interviewing their teacher and peer to revise w-questions learnt earlier. They were further introduced to the house and room vocabulary and adjectives through story telling. The students attempted to make small sentences on house and rooms with articles in the class and write an email in their notebooks. Derived from the Sanskrit word 'Rangavalli', it means rows of colours, and is drawn in the homes, courtyards and sometimes even on walls, to celebrate auspicious occasions. Demonstration with space management, freehand drawing, opaque and earthy colours wwas done. They also learnt the use of poster colours, holding a brush and colour theory.
