MathChapter 1: KNOWING OUR NUMBERS The chapter was introduced with the help of experiential learning through their day-today life situations. Life Skill : The school's Land line number was taken for explaining the Indian/ International System of numerations, the successor and predecessor and the expanded form. The number of zeroes in thousand, lakh and crore was explained followed by the explanation of number of thousands in a lakh. The Flash Card Activity: Group Activity The students were asked to make a single digit number of their choice. Once the students were divided into groups, they were called and asked to make the smallest or the greatest number using their number cards. Then the students were asked to name the number so formed by Indian system numeration/ International System of Numerations, NIE (NEWS paper in Education): Estimation was explained with the help of Newspaper cuttings to estimate the given numbers according to their rounded off nearest 10s, 100s, 1000s, etc.. Questions from NCERT Text book were taught in the class and few questions were given for practice. Worksheet based on SDGs were given to the students as practice questions. Science“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” The concept ‘Components of Food’ was introduced in the class by a recall activity on different types of nutrients present on the label of their favorite snack. To facilitate a student centered approach, ‘peer teaching’ was introduced in class where the children taught their peers about the functions of carbohydrates, proteins and fats using the ‘show and tell’ method. They presented the real sources of CPF (Carbohydrates, proteins and fats ) and explained the functions of the same to their peers. By this activity, students were able to relate to 'SDG-3 Good Health and well being'. In addition to this, a starch test was performed using bread and iodine solution. The students observed the change in color of solution from brown to blue-black. They also checked the presence of fats in peanuts, chips by using butter paper. The chapter was concluded with the topic “Balanced Diet” where the students shared their understanding and learning which they got while doing their holiday homework based on the same. They also created small ‘blue’ and 'green' dustbins to segregate their room wastes. They further researched about 'landfills’ and were surprised to learn that these modern landfills produce methane gas that is used to produce electricity. The students shared their thoughts on how they can refuse-reduce-reuse-recycle, things. During the discussion on this topic, the students watched a video on how plastic is recycled and made into usable items like brushes, chairs, benches, etc. They also shared how they used various plastic items at home and contribute to reducing garbage in their surroundings (SDG -14 Life on Land). https://www.dumpsters.com/blog/how-do-modern-landfills-work Social ScienceThe Social Sciences have a critical contribution to make, in helping understand, imagine and craft a more sustainable future for all. The Earth is what we all have in common. The students learned about the Globe, Latitudes, and Longitudes with much excitement. They learned about the axis and the direction in which the earth rotates. They learned about the heat zones of the Earth with an activity using a torch and globe. Map-based activities were conducted to develop students' map and direction skills. A discussion on time zones was conducted in class. The students actively participated in the classroom discussions. The budding archaeologists and historians of Suncity School continued their journey to the past. The chapter Earliest Societies was introduced by taking the students on a virtual tour of prehistoric life. An interesting discussion on the life of our early ancestors was conducted and students excitedly shared about the life of their ancestors. They learned about the dangers and the challenges our ancestors had to face in the past. They gained insights into the Paleolithic age, mesolithic age, and neolithic age. The achievements and inventions during each stone age were discussed. The different stone tools used during the old, middle and new stone age was explained to the students with pictures. Art Integration Activity: "Art of our early Ancestors' The students were explained about the cave painting in the Social Science class and in the Art class. The students were asked to prepare their own version of cave painting to gain insights into the past. Revision tests were conducted for the UT. ICTThe students during their ICT class learnt different functions in Excel Software. They were asked to plan for their Birthday party and maintain the expenses in Excel. They applied different functions like Sum, Max, Min, Average, Count, etc. They also learned 'Today' function and different types of cell references. English“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin The class interaction began with a welcome note and a discussion of Holiday Home work in which the students presented their work beautifully. Discussing on the structure of a sentence, we revised the nouns and went on to learning more about Adjectives and their use in English language. The students learnt about the application of different kinds of adjectives and the degrees of comparison in their day to day life. The same was followed by Note Taking in their notebook with the help of a PPT and a hand out. The students enjoyed attempting the exercises of their Grammar Plus Book. They enjoyed and understood the usage of adjectives with a reflection NIE activity. A poem 'Foreign Lands' was also explained and discussed well in the class in which the maximum focus was on the use of adjectives. The topic of Formal letters was introduced with a situation based discussion in the class wherein the students were able to compare and contrast the features of formal and informal letters. Eliciting responses while going through the PPT about the types of letters was another interesting way to get their attention. The students not only shared their prior knowledge, relevance and application of letters in the current scenario but also minutely observed a sample to deduce the format of the letters- both Formal and Informal. The practice questions attempted by the students helped them to work on their style of writing and structure. In order to improve their ability to ‘Apply and Transfer’ (under Bloom’s Taxonomy), they shared their knowledge about informal letters and practiced writing the same with the help of instructions shared in the class. “The road you fear to go, holds the treasure you seek.” The chapter Treasure Seekers - I & II began with a discussion about how the students would be earning money as Sixth graders. They came up with numerous creative answers. Each student was assigned a specific paragraph to explain and in this way, they were able to develop their speaking skills as well. They were made to be more engrossed in the story and strengthen their learning by doing word work in their notebooks. Treasure Seekers II was also discussed in continuation with the previous chapter. The students were able to correlate both the chapters. The causes of the problem along with the solutions was discussed in the class. The month was started with a revision sheet for UT 1. The solved answer key was later shared on MS Teams. We tuned into the topics- Numbers [50-100], Nationalities, Neighbouring countries and The Famous Monuments of European countries. As a part of the language & performing arts week, the students learnt about how to converse in French by watching videos showing 2 conversations which would help themn to converse as a French national. The students learnt about the different types of residences and the names of the rooms in Spanish. Q & A on the topic were practiced in class and the students attempted a small paragraph on the topic. Radical change verbs were introduced and compared with other types of Spanish verbs. To practice the students attempted a fill in the blank exercise from the PPT. With the help of the class book the students learnt objects of the bedroom from the chapter "Mi dormitorio". By telling the location of the objects in the room, the students learnt preposition of place. The students learned to name their family and friends and to introduce their family and friends by their name, age and their relation with them to others. They also gained the knowledge about how to introduce a family with the help of a family tree and pictures. They further acquired the skills to draw their own family tree and to replace nouns with pronouns. They then learned to introduce a family named "Family Weigel" with the help of grammar and vocabulary learnt. Students of Grade VI were equally distributed in different sports based on the sections. They explored all the sports mentioned below: BADMINTON: Ready Position: Sidestep, Chase, Moving front & back, Lunge BASKETBALL: Ball handling, Dribbling, Passing CRICKET: Batting & Bowling, Fielding & Wicket Keeping FOOTBALL: Ball control & dribbling, Passing & Receiving, Shooting & Kicking SELF DEFENCE: Wrist Grab - Technique 1 (Same hand & Opposite hand, From behind same side hand) GYMNASTICS: Basic gymnastic skills in simple routing - floor, mats & other gymnastic equipment. Understanding the role of strength & flexibility, technique & fitness, safety for self & others Indian Dance"I enjoy the freedom of modern dance as well as the constraints of classical dance." The month began with a choreography on a patriotic song in fusion dance style. Students enjoyed learning various gestures and postures with the peppy rhythmic song- "Satyamev Jayate". Western Dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a centain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a patriotic song embibing the spirit of love and respect towards the nation. We used lines and curves (tools) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It's a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DramaStudents learnt how to coordinate and function as a cohesive group through the Random Alphabet exercise. They were also taught about characterization and given the task of coming up with 5 characters with unique character traits and quirks. Indian Musicजुलाई में छात्र छात्राओं द्वारा की गई गतिविधिया: गायन अभ्यास: शुद्ध स्वर अलंकार राग, गीत - लोक गीत कजरी बुंदन बुंदन प्रयोग हुए वाद्य: तानपूरा, ऑडियो ट्रैक गायन तकनीक: गायन के अभ्यास की बुनियादी तकनीक, प्रतियोगिता में प्रस्तुति के महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु छात्र छात्राओं ने इंटर स्कूल गायन प्रतियोगिता मे हिस्सा लिया तथा बहुत ही अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। Western MusicIn their Western Music lessons, students got a wider introduction to the world of Bucket Drumming, Indian Classical Tabla and Classical Upright Piano. Different playing patterns, the art of Improvisation, different Time Signatures were the core essence of these lessons. Visual ArtsIn their Visual Art lessons, students learnt: Typography- · Introduction to letters as a graphic (Nameplate/ initials). · Students were introduced to the study of types, as a reflection of their inner self. They were asked to design a nameplate using their name initials in their own style. Picture composition/ poster on Earth Day- · Students observed and related environmental issues into a visual composition. Poster Making on Labour Day · Students recalled their observations from daily life and made a poster on ‘Stop Child Labour’. Picture composition/ poster on Mother’s Day- · Students observed the emotion of a child and mother and expressed it into a visual composition. Composition: Creative & freehand Art Technique: Free hand, paper craft, colour mixing, geometric (with tools), colouring, outlining Art tools: Pencil, sketch pen, crayons, oil pastels, scale, craft paper, tissue, etc SDG: Good Health & Well Being, Quality Education, No poverty, Responsible Consumption & Production Assembly VI ASkill is the joint force of passion, experience and intellect. World youth skills day is marked every year on 15th July to celebrate importance of training young individuals with skills for employment & entrepreneurship. With immense vigor and enthusiasm ,a general assembly was conducted by Grade VI A to commemorate the importance of world Youth Skills day. This year the theme for world youth's skills day is 'Transforming youth skills for the future'. The assembly comprised of an informative and insightful Power Point Presentation by the students on the history and importance of celebrating the World Youth Skills Day and a magnetic poetry on the importance of skills. Assembly VI BIndia is indubitably the land of brave warriors, we fight to claim what is ours. Our Indian army is brimful of hardihood, and, in the year 1999, the world witnessed it when we fought Kargil War against Pakistan. With heartfelt appreciation, a special assembly was conducted by Grade VI B students to commemorate and celebrate the sincere and unmatchable efforts of the Indian Army in the form of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The assembly comprised of a skit highlighting the significance of the crucial day. This small yet powerful skit charged up the entire audience with a feeling of pride and nationalism. Each performance acknowledged the efforts and gallantry of our Armed Forces. The young students were awestruck to go in the depths of the history associated with the commemoration.
