MathThe lessons began with checking the previous knowledge of Geometry through an activity where the students were able to identify different terms like – point, ray, line, line segment, etc. The students were instructed to make their own park using the shapes as an introduction activity. Students enjoyed finding different types of angles in their surroundings. They enjoyed making different types of angles using sticky notes. The students were asked to make their own model robot using different shapes and to describe the shapes. NCERT text book questions were discussed in the class through written work. Science Biology - The students brainstormed together to think about how roots and stems are used as edible parts of plants. This exercise helped them to develop an understanding of roots, stems and leaves as edible parts by listing and observing different vegetables from their kitchen. To evoke an inquiry about the topic of the food chain and food web, several images of the sun, plants and animals were shown to the students. They were divided into groups of 4 where they brainstormed and classified them into producers, consumers and decomposers. This small activity helped them to construct a food chain of three and four trophic levels. They also learnt the impact on the feeding habits of animals, if one or more animals are removed from the food chain. In addition to this, a small video was shown to them where they were connected with SDG-2 Zero Hunger that helped them to explore some easy ways to reduce food wastage like using specialized mobile apps, composting, and making a weekly food menu. They measured the lengths of different objects like a notebook, laptop and glass by using the standard as well as non-standard units like handspan, pace and cubit (arm's length). They learnt the correct way of using a scale and a tape measure by avoiding parallax errors. Further, they explored new ways of measuring the length of a curved line by using a thread. For understanding the concept of solution, solute and solvent, saturated and unsaturated solution, a hands-on learning activity was designed for them in which they added sugar in cold water (saturated solution) and sugar in hot water (unsaturated solution). Further, to understand the process of separation of insoluble solid substances from a liquid through sedimentation, decantation and loading using alum, they all prepared a heterogeneous (insoluble) mixture of mud and water, added alum to it so that all the impurities stick to the alum making the water clear. They also performed an experiment showing the process of evaporation to separate salt from water. This not only evoked their inquiry related to the topic but also stimulated their research, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The History lesson began with an activity to check the students' previous knowledge where the students had to compare the life of Early Humans and Modern Humans. EnglishThe English lessons commenced with icebreakers, the class shared their likes, interests and talents besides coming together and establishing the Essential Agreements. The students recapitulated the basic knowledge about Sentences and built upon it by learning the types and the application of Phrases, too. They enjoyed the ‘Tune In’ exercise of picture composition game “My world, My Sentences”, writing the subject and predicate for each sentence they framed. The students started the topic Nouns and built upon the same by learning the kinds- Proper, Common, Abstract, Collective, Possessives, one noun for many, Countable and Uncountable nouns. They enjoyed the discussion of several exercises. The students recapitulated the format of an informal letter with the help of a sample letter and practiced the same in the class. The students became familiar with the genre of fantasy while reading the extract from ‘Peter Pan’ in the form of a play. They delved deeper into the idea of remaining a child and the responsibilities that come with growing up. Voice modulation and reading with expression was the skill in focus. Learning to be quiet, modest and gentle, the students enjoyed the poem ‘The Violet’ which conveys the idea of humility. They talked about their favourite flower and attempted to illustrate that too.
